Description
Balians have a broader frame, but are otherwise a regular humanoid form. Where all other races carry special physical markers, Balians have none.
They are known to be highly superstitious, a trait most visible in their relationship with the Seren calendar. Though the calendar itself originates with the Tharizians, the superstition surrounding it is entirely a Balian addition. This is most apparent in their treatment of the Nadir: the Tharizians, despite having devised the very calendar the belief is built on, never attached any special meaning to a person's birth season or the growth or harvest of crops in specific time periods.
Origin
While not a newly established race, the Balians have only lived in what is now known as Balior for the last three hundred years. Before that, they were sailing nomads, until a series of incidents devastated most of their population and drove them to seek refuge with the Tharizians, who allowed them to settle.
The Baliards
The Baliards have always been an influential family among the Balian people, and it was they who negotiated the settlement agreement with the Tharizians in 1855 of the Godless Era. They maintained leadership over the Balians but answered to the Tharizian queens. It wasn't until the year 2123, when they broke the peace treaty and marched on the Tharizian capital, Lysinn, that the Balians became a sovereign monarchy in their own right, with the Baliards as rulers.
Enforcers
The Falcrum is the institution that enforces the laws of the kingdom. They hold trials and their force of strong, competent Weavers and Reapers, called The Evaldri, work as the Crown's enforcers. They hold no responsibility for protecting King Osric and his kin. For that the royal family has the Royal Guard, and city guards hold the responsibility in each city as need be. The Evaldri are called upon when more power is required, if there is need for an active investigation and when something falls outside the jurisdiction of the guards.
